Beautiful garden birds

How beautiful and colourful are garden birds? I never really noticed how vivid and bright they are until I started taking photos of them with my fancy camera. Taking photos does that – it makes you look carefully and see detail you would otherwise overlook.

Inspired by my dad’s bird feeders we bought some of our own from the garden centre yesterday. The number of birds in our garden has quadrupled since putting the food out. We got a peanut dispenser and a seed bird feeder.

The birds certainly seem to appreciate them. I have been checking out the RSPB website to look for other feeders and advice on feeding the birds. If you haven’t checked it out I would certainly recommend it. I learnt that:

- In the spring you should take your peanut feeders inside because chicks can choke on chunky peanuts

- Birds appreciate being fed all year around as food shortages can happen at any time of year

- High fat foods are best in the winter and high protein foods should be given in the summer

Great tit

This beautiful chap popped over the wall whilst I was taking photos of the bird feeders – he obviously wanted to check what all the commotion was about.

I am determined to find out more about the garden wildlife this year – I will keep you posted! Enjoy your beautiful garden birds, Jane
